Pavelsis Avionics Technology Production Trade Inc., located in Teknopark Istanbul, has developed the Modular Smart Medical Monitoring System.
The system is supported by the Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA) within the scope of the 2020 Covid-19 Combat and Resilience Program. The system, which operates under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and is carried out with the financial support of ISTKA, has achieved the success of being the only private company accepted among the 800 projects that have been granted support. The system, which works wirelessly with BLE technology, can continuously measure and record patients' fever, pulse and blood oxygen levels (SpO2).
All measurements that exceed threshold values can notify patients and healthcare professionals of an alarm. The system, which can remotely monitor quarantined patients who do not need intensive care, can be used in patients whose medical values need to be monitored and in children under the age of 3. Pavelsis Avionics General Manager Sinan Ali Tok answered our questions about the Modular Smart Medical Monitoring System Project supported by the Istanbul Development Agency.
ELECTRONICS AND EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
Can you introduce Pavelsis?
We are the spinoff company of Pavotek, which has been designing and manufacturing electronic products for years. We have implemented many successful projects for all kinds of needs in the field of electronic and embedded systems, including avionics systems, military electronics and communication systems, biomedical solutions, power electronics, and the Internet of Things.
FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM
We have brought strategically important competencies such as flight control and communication systems on air platforms to our country.
We produce original solutions with our R&D studies. Thanks to our real-time operating system Pavos and numerous modular software and hardware libraries developed by our engineers, we can design for complex problems in a short time.
FAST, SECURE, STABLE TRACKING
How will the system benefit the Covid-19 process?
During the Covid-19 pandemic, it is very important to increase the safety of our healthcare professionals. For this purpose, we aimed to monitor patients discharged from hospitals at home or in non-intensive care beds during the quarantine period. Patients who are isolated at home, receiving outpatient treatment, and have mild illnesses can be monitored remotely instantly, safely, and quickly.
LOW COST, EASY TO USE
How will it cost and be used?
It will be low cost and easy to use. It will reduce the workload of healthcare professionals and reduce the risk of infection. It will be possible for more patients to receive treatment and be followed. Supervisors will also be included in remote monitoring.
PROVIDES FAST INTERVENTION
Will it provide instant information about the patient?
The patient's fever, SpO2 and pulse information can be monitored instantly and retrospectively from all mobile devices thanks to BLE technology. When an alarm occurs for the relevant parameters, rapid intervention can be provided. Authorized persons will be able to follow the conditions of all patients through the system. In individual use, persons will be able to constantly follow the conditions of their relatives.
TO BE USED IN OTHER DISEASES
It can also be used safely in children under the age of 3 and in patients whose medical values need to be monitored. Although the R&D studies of our product continue, we are at a level where we can quickly start production. The aim is for those with high-risk comorbidities and respiratory system diseases to benefit from the system. We plan to produce 2,100 units in the first step. Our medical and medical consultancy is provided by Dr. Kemal Turgay Özbilen, Lecturer at Istanbul Faculty of Medicine.

INSTANT FOLLOW-UP
Drawing attention to the fact that healthcare professionals were unable to view the conditions of patients instantly, from a single location and remotely during the quarantine process, Sinan Ali Tok said, “This situation, which puts the lives of healthcare professionals at risk, will be eliminated thanks to our system.
Health information measured with BLE thermometer, SpO2 and pulse meter products will be transmitted to the center. The information can be monitored by patients, their relatives and healthcare professionals 24/7.”
PULSE AND OXYGEN WARNING
The BLE pulse meter can continuously measure pulse and blood oxygen levels with high precision. The measured data can be sent wirelessly to surrounding smart devices and computers with BLE 5.2. Since it is wireless, it does not cause any additional discomfort to the patient. When the person's pulse or oxygen data exceeds the threshold value, it sends a warning to the center.
Patient control from a sterile environment The system, which can receive measurement information from the modules that transmit data with BLE in its environment and send it to the monitoring module via Wi-Fi, can be fixed to the wall and work with an adapter. The information collected in the monitoring module can be monitored from all smart devices.
A threshold level based on the person can be determined and the relevant parties can be warned. Measurement values can be displayed instantly and retrospectively graphically. Healthcare workers can check the conditions of their patients from a sterile environment. In addition, since it can give warnings in emergency situations, the possibility of missing measurement values is minimized.
HIGH FEVER ALARM
The BLE thermometer can continuously measure a person's body temperature with a precision of 0.1 C. It can be sent wirelessly to surrounding smart devices and computers with BLE 4.1. When the fever exceeds the specified threshold level, it sends an alarm to the system.
